Multi Faith Meeting - Children show the way

Coimbatore Vizha took an auspicious start with the Multi Faith Meeting led by the Children of Coimbatore. Around 150 school children participated in the multi faith prayer meeting and rally aimed at unity and togetherness, one of the key traits of Coimbatore.

The Multi Faith Meeting, the cradle of Coimbatore Vizha started at 09.00 AM rightly at Koniamman temple, the nemesis of Coimbatore. The children cut across different faiths assembled for the prayer meeting at Koniamman Temple. Ms. Vinoo Aram and Mr.Parthiban of Shanthi Ashram explained the objective of the multi faith meeting which was well received by the children. The Gurukkal of Koniamman Temple provided valuable insights about the temple and Hinduism. After participating in the special pooja, the children marched towards St. Michaels Church in the vicinity of the temple. In a special prayer meeting held in the church, Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar addressed the students on understanding different faiths and respecting them to the core. Needless to say, Dr.Vanavarayar and his speech were a hit. The children then progressed to Jain Temple in RS Puram and came to terms with the essence of Jainism. After the special prayer in Jain Temple, the children assembled at Gurdhwara near Mettupalayam Road. Sri. Amarjit Singh Chandok spoke on the facets of Sikhism which was followed by a special prayer. Gurdhwara also hosted a special lunch for all children. The prayers at all the holy places were aimed for a secure and prosperous Coimbatore.

The essence of the Multi Faith Meeting was to instill a sense of respect towards all faiths among the future Coimbatoreans. The children took the objective to the core and observed various faiths keenly. For many of them, it was their first exposure to places of different faiths and they were surprised, pleased and gratified.

The start of Coimbatore Vizha also saw the assembly of whos who in Coimbatore. The local media were abuzz in slicing a piece of this history. The start of Coimbatorwe Vizha augured well for the future - the future of Coimbatore and the future of Coimbatore Vizha. The Celebration has just begun.
